A few years go, I downloaded a "Death Of Email Marketing" report.
Pfffft.
Let's get real.
Personally... I'm not a big fan of these "Death of ---X---" type claims.
As you already know... it's usually a cleverly disguised SALES tactic, right?
So, the big question is...
Are funnels "DEAD" in 2019?
I'm not making that claim.
But... many funnels will be on life-support.
As we wind down 2018... I've been reading "Digital Marketing in 2019" type articles.
You too?
A hot topic right now is... marketing funnels.
Take a look...
From Neil Patel:
"Marketing funnels are going to be more popular than ever in 2019… before people would just optimize their campaigns for 'how many sales am I getting?'. Now, you need to look at upsells, downsells, cross sales, LTV, churn..."
Another article from the folks at WiderFunnel:
"In 2019, say goodbye to the traditional marketing funnel”
Even Forbes.com had something to say recently:
"Content Marketing Trends To Watch in 2019: The marketing funnel will change shape"
Should you be surprised by all of this?
Nope.
Digital Marketing is constantly changing and evolving.
You adapt... or DIE.
It's that simple.
Boy-o-boy... do I miss the days to slapping together a sloppy 3-step funnel and watching the cash roll in.
Those days are long gone...
Today, you gotta have a better, smarter, well-optimized mousetrap.
(...especially when you are paying more than ever to get traffic).
This goes beyond "Funnel Marketing 2.0"
... it's more like, "Funnel Marketing 10.0".
Here are some more fun-facts about where things are headed in 2019...
Did You Know?
- Google found that 70% of B2B buyers watch videos on their journey through the sales funnel. Sidenote: 80% of all Internet traffic will be video by 2021 (Cisco).
- 35% of people use chatbots for the purpose of resolving a complaint or problem (Jay Baer, NYT best-selling author)
- 88% of U.S. marketers reported seeing measurable improvements due to personalization (recent study from Evergage)
2019 is all about Automation & Personalization -- Creating personalized webpages, automated email funnels, chatbot sequences and triggers based on actions, events and preferences.
Anyway, I hope this gives you a few things to think about as you map out your big plans for World Domination in 2019. :-)
